“HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, MI — Owners of Westshore Mall are ready to take a page from the recently revamped Centerpointe Mall.

Like the Grand Rapids mall, the struggling Holland area mall will be “de-malled.” The demolition work could begin early next year, if the shopping center’s owner receives approval from the township planning commission next month.

Plans call for removing interior space so stores have exterior fronts that can be accessed from the parking lots, according to paperwork filed with the Holland Township planning office.

The mall’s 410,480 square feet will shrink by 25 percent, or nearly 100,000 square feet. Westshore’s new 367,000 square feet of leasable space would include four new out lot sites.

“Most of the interior space will be going away,” said Meghann Reynolds, the township’s community development director.”
